CHENIN BLANC
White Flight
Champalou, Chenin Blanc: Catherine and Didier Champalou, along with their daughters Celine & Virgie focus on sustainable farming to produce the prized grape of their region, Chenin Blanc. In their home of Vouvray, France, the grape is referred to as “The Chenin”, with the upmost respect. Vouvray and Chenin Blanc are synonymous, and if you see Vouvray on the label, it implies it is 100% Chenin Blanc.
Simonsig, Chenin Blanc: This Chenin Blanc is their flagship wine; this here is their 48th vintage in making it! It is said that there are three regions in the world that make quality Chenin Blanc; the Loire Valley of France, Clarksburg in California and South Africa. The grape itself is fairly neutral with the ability to take on many forms from bone-dry to sparkling to sweet, this representation is nice middle ground, drinking light and refreshing.
Broc Cellars, "Happi", Chenin Blanc: Happī means Happy in Japanese! This year of the Solano County Green Valley Chenin Blanc felt different – so they wanted to give it a new name to describe the feeling! At Broc Cellars, all wines are made using spontaneous fermentation, a process that means only using native yeasts and bacteria that exist on the grapes in order to make wine. There are no additional additives – this includes nutrients, yeast, bacteria, enzymes, tannins or other popular fermentation agents. Sulphur is a naturally occurring element in all wine, the amount found can vary. Lastly, the winemakers add little to no S02 to the winemaking process, depending on the wine and style.
PINOT NOIR
Red Flight
Pence Ranch, Pinot Noir: Winemaker Blair Pence provides minimal fertilization, uses wild yeast and little intervention is used during the winemaking process. Concrete fermentation and aged directly in 30% New French Oak.
Domaine Didon, Bourgogne Rouge: Simplicity is the key word of husband and wife and winemakers Naïma and David Didon who have a very precise vision of their work carried out in the vines and in the cellar. To achieve their ultimate goal, purity and simple practices are key in the winemaking process. The two winegrowers commit themselves to rigorous and demanding work. A gratifying desire which, after only a few years, is rewarded by a promising production.
Failla, Pinor Noir: The vineyards represented in this bottling are a stellar representation of quality farming, mature vines and the distinct terrior of cool climate and distinctive soils that brings Pinot Noir to life. Four impeccable vineyards from the Northern Willamette Valley were used in the creation of this wine.
